HOW PUREPLAY AND METHODGROUPE MADE CTV A PERFORMANCE CHANNEL FOR A LEADING U.S. GROCER

PurePlay and MethodGroupe built a signal-driven CTV strategy for one of America's largest grocers. Attain's live purchase data closed the loop with real purchases, so the team could optimize while the campaign was live.

OVERVIEW

The retailer needed CTV to move purchase behavior, and with several partners in the mix, they needed a clear performance leader decided by data. MethodGroupe brought PurePlay in to prove CTV could carry that weight.

Brand: One of America's largest grocers

Channel: Connected TV

Geography: Zip-code targeted / United States

Duration: Q4 2025

Agency: MethodGroupe

Measurement: Attain · purchase data

INTELLIGENCE

We did not buy impressions blind. PurePlay's Pulse engine read the market in real time across five signal layers: creative, competitive-landscape, local-market, household audience, and real purchase data.

The plan started narrow and expanded as the data opened it up. Spend concentrated in an ultra-premium, endemic content bucket: food and lifestyle programming where a grocery message lands in context, not wherever inventory is cheapest.

Creative built to speak to fresh food ran where fresh food lives: contextually relevant publishers like Food Network, Cooking Channel, and HGTV. This is the premium niche tier, endemic context at efficient CPMs, and it became the campaign's workhorse.

ACTIVATION

Attain closed the loop with real purchases, not modeled proxies. That turned measurement from a report card into a steering wheel.

Attain's measurement dashboard fed purchase data back while the campaign was live, so PurePlay's weekly Pulse Playbook could re-score winners and shift budget mid-flight. All six partners were judged apples-to-apples against Attain's grocery-vertical benchmarks.

OUTCOME

7.4x vs. grocery benchmark
The campaign returned 7.4x the grocery-vertical ROAS benchmark, and PurePlay finished #1 of six partners on both of the campaign's primary KPIs: ROAS and conversion rate. Campaign performance independently measured by Attain against real purchase data.

The challenge was attributing awareness to sales. Not just vanity media metrics. Actual sales. And we're not looking at what PurePlay is doing in a vacuum. We're seeing it up against every other partner in the mix, and the return is what's impressive.
